Morris Gottesman
April 27, 1929 - August 4, 2019

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend.

Murray survived the adversities of the holocaust and was the only survivor of his family.  Yet he managed to create a good life for his future family. When he arrived in America he attended and graduated junior high school at eighteen.  Shortly after that he was inducted in the army during the Korean War.  He took any jobs in the beginning from shoulder pad factory, pretzel maker, and various jobs in the food industry.  Eventually he met Abe Lebewohl and had a 42-year career as a counterman/caterer at the Second Avenue Deli.  He loved it there and was proud to be a part of it.

Gloria and Murray were married on February 5, 1956.  Murray's future family grew with three daughters Renee, Norma and Ava.  Later on he welcomed the grandchildren Andrew, Ryan, Zachary, Dustin and Rachel .  Family was extremely important to him and he was always loving, protective, funny and encouraging.  He was a fantastic role model for stamina, not giving up, life skills, humor and love.

Murray was very dedicated to holocaust education.  He was interviewed by the Shoah project produced by Steven Spielburg.  He also spoke at elementary, middle and high school, in New York and Florida about his experience during the holocaust until he was 89 years old.  His goal was to for young people have awareness of the holocaust and encouraged them to "never forget".  He also encouraged stamina and positive attitude to the students.  He made a warm yet powerful impression on the students.  He always got hugs at the end of his talks.

Murray will always be remembered with humor and love by his family and friends.
